ASPAS LATE GOAL HOLDS BARCELONA

Celta Vigo forward, Iago Aspas curled home a late freekick to put a dent in Barcelona's title ambition.

The former Liverpool man scored a fantastic freekick in a 2-2 draw at Balaidos extending Barcelona's winless run at the venue.

It was always going to be a difficult ground  for the defending champions whose last victory at the stadium was in 2015.

Barcelona came into the fixture knowing that a slip up could cost them dearly in the title race with arch rivals, Real Madrid playing Espanol a day later.

The away side opened the scoring, when Luis Suarez headed home a disguised Messi freekick in the 20th minute and although  Smolov equalised for the home side five minutes into the second half, Suarez restored to lead when he produced a turning finish in the 67th minute.

It looks as that goal would secure all three points for Barcelona but Aspas stepped up to curl a brilliant freekick, leaving Ter Stegen no chance in the 88th minute.

The draw means Barcelona go a point clear of Real Madrid although a win for Zinedine Zidane's men in Sunday's game against Espanol would see them leapfrog Barcelona to top spot.
