BATTERED AND BRUISED; BAYERN PUT EIGHT PAST BARCELONA

Barcelona's terrible season came to an embarrassing end as Bayern Munich put them to the sword with an 8-2 whitewashing in Portugal on Friday night.

The German champions made light work of the fixture many considered the game of the round as early the first half.

Bayern opened the scoring four minutes into the encounter when Mueller fired home a left footed strike after a knockdown from lewandowski.

A David Alaba own goal drew Barca level just three minutes later but goals from Ivan Perisic, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Mueller ensured that the Germans headed into the break with a three goal cushion.

Luis Suarez beautifully pulled one back for the Catalans in the 57th, turning inside Jerome Boateng before sending a low drive pass Manuel Neuer.

The three goal lead was restored after three minutes though when Joshua Kimmich slotted home after Nelson Semedo was left for dead by a moment of sheer trickery from Alphonso Davies.

Phillipe Coutinho came on to heap more misery on his former side, scoring twice and providing an assist for Robert Lewandowski to head home.

This is the latest addition to Bayern Munich's collection of heavy victories in this seasons champions league having put Seven past Tottenham in the group stages.

The German champions will take on the winners of tomorrow's match between Manchester City and Olympique Lyonnais.
